[Iowa DOT] 411104. Application for Authority to Transfer a Vehicle to a Demolisher

APPLICATION FOR AUTHORITY TO TRANSFER A VEHICLE TO A DEMOLISHER

Submit this application to the police authority of the jurisdiction in which the vehicle is located for authority to sell, give away, or otherwise dispose of the abandoned vehicle or a vehicle owned by the applicant whose title certificate is faulty, lost, or destroyed and is thereby unable to transfer title to the vehicle.

Page 2 of Iowa DOT Form 411163, the Authority to Transfer and/or Demolish a Vehicle portion, serves as certificate of authority, allowing the applicant to obtain a junking certificate for the motor vehicle.

Pursuant to IA Code, section 321.52.2.b, the owner of a motor vehicle that does not have a title or junking certificate may dispose of the vehicle to a licensed vehicle recycler for scrap or junk if the vehicle is 12 years old or older and is sold to the recycler for less than $1,000.

I hereby make application for authority to sell, give away, or otherwise dispose of the following described vehicle to a demolisher.

APPLICATION OF A DEMOLISHER FOR A CERTIFICATE OF AUTHORITY TO DEMOLISH A VEHICLE

I hereby make application for a certificate of authority to demolish the following described vehicle which lacks an engine or two or more wheels or other structural part which renders the vehicle totally inoperable.

NOTICE

Any person, firm, corporation, or unit of government upon whose property or in whose possession is found any abandoned vehicle, or any person being the owner of a vehicle whose title certificate is faulty, lost or destroyed, may dispose of such vehicle to a demolisher for junk without a title. If the vehicle lacks an engine or two or more wheels or other structural part which renders the vehicle totally inoperable, the police authority does not have to comply with the notification procedures of section 321.89(3), Code of Iowa.
